Natural remedies 2Coconut oil is used medicinally around the globe to treat a variety of health issues from asthma to wounds. Relating to the body’s largest organ, the skin, coconut oil helps to heal bruises, scrapes and burns; it helps fight premature aging in the skin and skin inflammation and it is a natural exfoliant. Virgin coconut oil fights to prevent wrinkles and sagging skin and to prevent and fade age spots. It is a protective antioxidant with no added fragrances or harmful chemicals.

Wash your face and hands with clean water. Dry gently with a soft towel.

Pour a few drops of coconut oil into the palm of your hand.

Apply the coconut oil to your face where the age spots have appeared and gently massage the oil into the skin. Massage the skin in an upward pattern toward the hair line. If the age spots are near the eyes, use the ring finger, only, as this is the weakest finger and will not pull the gentle skin around the eye area.

Apply coconut oil to your hands and arms if you have age spots in those areas. If you do not have age spots on your hands and arms, apply some there for age spot prevention.

Apply coconut oil to your age spots immediately after coming in from the sunshine to help repair any damage that the sun may have caused.

Usage of Lemon

Apply lemon juice directly to spots. Lemon juice contains an acid that may help break down melanin pigment and thus reduce the appearance of spots within a month or two. Vitamin C in lemons may directly bleach the skin as well. Cut a lemon into slices and place the slices directly on the brown spots. Leave it on for about 30 minutes and then rinse off with running water.

Be careful about combining lemon juice and direct sun exposure; there are reports that placing lemon juice on the skin can cause significant sunburns in direct sunlight. Other reports suggest that the bleaching of the brown spots is more effective in direct sunlight. It may be best limit sun exposure to lemon-juice treated brown spots to 10 minutes at a time.

Use a lemon juice and sugar combination. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a bowl and add 2-4 tablespoons of sugar, slowly adding the sugar until it combines with the lemon juice to make a sort of paste.

Apply the mixture to each brown spot with a brush or a cotton swab.

Leave the paste on for about half an hour and then rinse it off with cool water.

This paste may dry your skin, so be sure to apply a moisturizer after every treatment.

Make a paste with honey, sugar, and lemon juice. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a bowl and add up to 2 tablespoons of sugar (depending on how much juice the lemon had) and two tablespoons of honey, making a goopy paste.

Apply the mixture to each brown spot with a brush or a cotton swab.

Leave it on for a half hour and then rinse it off with cool water.

The honey provides moisture to protect your skin from over-drying.

Learn about the power of enzymes. Enzymes are the workforce of the biochemical world. Enzymes change various substances without getting used up themselves, like nature’s catalytic converters. The enzymes may help break down melanin into colourless smaller parts.

The different foods described here contain different enzymes, but all classified as enzymes which break up proteins—the proteases or proteolytic enzymes.

These proteases include papain (in papaya), potato aspartic protease, and bromelain (in pineapple).

Grate a potato and mix with honey. Take one medium sized potato (any kind of white potato will work) and grate it into a bowl. Add enough honey to make a paste.

Apply the mixture to the brown spots.

Leave the mixture on for about 15 minutes, and then rinse it off with cool water.

Papaya Mask

Home-Remedies-Step-6-Version-3

Make a papaya mask. Scoop all of the pulp out of a papaya and mash it in a bowl until it is an even consistency. You may want to use a hand mixer to thoroughly mash the fruit.

Use a cotton swab or make-up brush to apply a mask to your face and any other area that has brown spots.

Leave the mask on until it dries and rinse off with cool water.

Pineapple

Home-Remedies-Step-7-Version-3

Use pineapple juice or a pineapple mask. Pour some pineapple juice into a bowl (ensure that it is 100% pineapple juice with no added sugar or juice your own pineapple). Using a cotton swab, apply the pineapple juice to any brown spot and leave it on until dry. Rinse off with cool water.

As an alternative, mash up some pineapple slices and apply as a mask to your face and any other area that has brown spots. Leave the mask on until dry, and then rinse off with cool water.

Try chickpeas

Home-Remedies-Step-8-Version-3

Cook ½ cup of chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans) by measuring out ¼ cup of peas and boiling them in ½ of water. Boil until the peas are soft (15 minutes for canned beans or about an hour for dried beans), then remove from heat and cool.

When cooled, mash the cooked chick peas to make a paste.

Rub the paste onto the spots and let it dry. Rinse it off with cool water.

Yogurt For Skin Spots

Home-Remedies-Step-9-Version-3

Apply plain yogurt directly onto your face. As a dairy product, yogurt contains acids that can help lighten dark spots. The “good” bacteria in yogurt may be beneficial as well, as they are known to contain enzymes that can break down proteins like melanin.

Rub the plain yogurt onto your dark spots that need “fading”.

Leave on until the yogurt dries, and then rinse off with cool water.

Removing Skin spots

Mix plain yogurt with herbs. Some herbs may help the yogurt remove the spots from your skin. Apply the yogurt and herb mixture directly onto your face and any other area with spots. Leave on until dry, and then rinse off with cool water. The following herbs contain antioxidants and bioflavonoids that can help lighten brown spots when combined with yogurt:

1 tablespoon of mustard powder

1 tablespoon of turmeric/curcumin powder

1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel

Try castor oil

Castor oil contains antioxidants that can protect and lighten the skin. Soak a cotton ball with a few drops of castor oil and dab on your skin anywhere you want to fade the spots. Let it soak in and leave it on!

Use Vitamin E

Vitamin E has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties and can help fade dark spots on your skin. Open or pierce a liquid capsule of Vitamin E and apply directly to your dark spots. Let it soak in and leave it on!

Visit a dermatologist. Brown spots are harmless, but they can be mistaken for skin cancer. It’s always a good idea to have any spots on your skin checked by a dermatologist. Once your dermatologist has verified that the spots are merely cosmetic, you can take measures to reduce the appearance of the spots.

Learn your ABCDEs

Dermatologists often talk about the “ABCDEs” of skin cancer– ways to distinguish between skin cancer and a benign (non-cancerous) growth. Skin cancer tends to be:

Assymetric

With uneven Borders (edges)

With varied Colours (Different shades of brown, black and tan)

Larger in Diameter (¼ inch or 6mm)

Evolving (changing) in size, shape, colour, how much above the skin surface they are raised etc.

Skin Check

Look over your skin regularly. Most cancerous spots are marked by change, so keeping track of the way your skin looks can help you with early detection. Depending on factors such as time spent exposed to UV rays and family history, you may need to have your skin checked regularly by a professional dermatologist.

Make an avocado mask

Remove the pulp from one avocado, mash it, and apply it to the affected area for 10–15 minutes. Rinse it off with cool water and pat your skin dry with a soft washcloth. This remedy can be applied daily for people with dry, sensitive skin and twice a week for people with oily skin.

Avocado is a fruit rich in many vitamins, nutrients and fatty acids that stimulate collagen production and tissue repair. Vitamins such as vitamin A and C have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties that help protect the skin from harmful free radicals. Vitamin E helps moisturize the skin and reduce the appearance of scars.

Cleanser and Toner

Make your own natural cleanser and toner. If you don’t want to buy a cleanser, head to the kitchen and make your own. Infuse one teaspoon of green tea, which contains natural antioxidants, in a cup of warm water for 3–5 minutes. Strain the tea into a clean bowl and let it cool for 15–20 minutes. Dip a cotton ball, facial wipe, or microdermabrasion cloth into the infusion and apply it to your skin.

Never apply makeup immediately after washing your skin. It can also clog your pores, causing more acne breakouts. Also be sure to use oil-free cosmetics for your skin and hair.

Exfoliation

Use a gentle and natural exfoliant. Exfoliation can improve your skin’s appearance and remove dead skin cells, preventing acne. For a natural exfolliant, boil 1 tablespoon of organic oatmeal in ¼ cup water. Once it cools, gently massage the mixture onto your face. Oatmeal is a natural plant-based cleanser with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and photo protective properties. Its high concentration of starches helps the skin stay moisturized too, so it is safe to use for people with sensitive skin.

Before using any exfoliating products, ask your dermatologist what treatment may be right for your skin type. People with dry, sensitive skin should limit exfoliating to once or twice per week, while people with oily, thicker skin can exfoliate once every day.

Avoid parabens

Parabens are preservatives used in many cosmetic products. Many studies have found that parabens can disrupt hormonal balance and put you at a higher risk of breast and uterine cancers. They can also cause skin irritation and inflammation for people who suffer from acne, and may be a potential allergen.

Butyl and propyl paraben are considered more toxic than methyl paraben and ethyl paraben, but the latter is more easily absorbed by the human body

Steam your pores

Before you think about squeezing or pulling them out, you need to really loosen the pores. Blackheads are very sticky and won’t come out easily, but by loosening the pores you give yourself the best chance of success. An excellent way to do this is to carefully hold your face at least a foot above a bowl of steaming water for ten to fifteen minutes. Getting any closer can cause burns.

Place a towel over your head so the steam can’t escape.

You will feel the steam beginning to loosen your pores.

You can also soak a washcloth in hot water and lay it over your face.
